Technical Questions
MOA (Minute of Angle):
• 1 MOA ≈ 1 inch at 100 yards
• Popular in the US market
• Easier for users familiar with imperial measurements
MRAD (Milliradian):
• 1 MRAD ≈ 10 cm at 100 meters
• Standard for military and NATO forces
• Easier calculations in metric system
• Adjustments typically in 0.1 MRAD increments
Both are equally accurate - choose based on your preference and local standards.
FFP (First Focal Plane):
• Reticle size changes with magnification
• Subtensions remain accurate at ANY magnification
• Ideal for long-range shooting and holdovers
• Preferred by tactical and competition shooters
SFP (Second Focal Plane):
• Reticle size stays constant regardless of magnification
• Subtensions accurate at one magnification (usually maximum)
• Generally more affordable
• Good for general hunting and recreational use
Consider your primary use case:
1-4x / 1-6x (Low Power Variable Optics):
• Close to medium range engagements
• CQB, 3-gun competitions, driven hunting
• Wide field of view, fast target acquisition
3-9x / 4-12x (Medium Range):
• Versatile all-purpose magnification
• General hunting, target shooting
• Good balance of zoom and field of view
6-24x+ (High Power):
• Long-range precision shooting
• Benchrest, F-class, long-range hunting
• Requires stable shooting position
Higher magnification isn't always better - consider field of view and light transmission needs.
Parallax occurs when the reticle and target image are not on the same focal plane.
Effects of parallax:
• Point of impact shift with eye position changes
• Reduced accuracy if not properly adjusted
Solutions:
• Adjustable Objective (AO) - Front lens adjustment
• Side Focus - Convenient turret-mounted adjustment
• Fixed Parallax - Set at factory (usually 100 yards)
For distances under 100 yards, fixed parallax is often sufficient. For precision long-range shooting, adjustable parallax is recommended.
This is often caused by astigmatism, not a defective sight. Common visual irregularities include:
• Cluster of dots or blob appearance
• Starbursting (radiating arms from the dot)
• Abnormal shapes (oval, line, or comma)
• Halo around the dot
Quick test: Look at the reticle through your rear iron sight or through a small hole punched in paper. If the dot appears round, the issue is likely your eyes, not the optic.
If you're uncertain, contact us - we're happy to help determine if there's an actual defect.
